Save Rowhill School for Community Use

The former Rowhill School site on Stock Lane has served Wilmington and neighbouring communities for generations. Once a valued local asset, it has been left unused for too long. If it is sold for development, this important community site could be lost forever.

Kent County Council has begun the process of selling the site before asking local residents what they believe its future should be.

We believe that is the wrong approach.

Planning advice from Dartford Borough Council has made clear that proposals for around 20 new homes on the site are considered unacceptable because they would result in the loss of a valued community facility and conflict with adopted planning policies.

Local people deserve the opportunity to help shape the future of this important site before any irreversible decisions are made.

Our Campaign

Wilmington's Conservative Dartford Borough Councillors, with the support of Laura Trott MP, are calling on Kent County Council to:

  • Pause the sale of the Rowhill School site.

  • Work with Dartford Borough Council, local councillors and community representatives to explore options that retain the site for community use.

  • Carry out a full, open and meaningful public consultation on the site's long-term future before any decision is taken.

We have spoken to many local residents who want to see Rowhill School protected as a community asset. Time and again, people have told us they want this site safeguarded for local people, rather than being lost to speculative development.

By signing this petition, you are sending a clear message to Kent County Council: Pause the sale. Listen to local residents. Work with the community to secure the right long-term future for Rowhill School.

The Conservative Dartford Borough Councillors, will present this petition to Kent County Council and continue making the case for Rowhill School to be retained for community use.

This petition is about ensuring local people have a genuine voice in the future of an important community asset before decisions are made that cannot be undone.
